David Bowie - Diamond Dogs Tour & David Live (1974)

North America and Bowie’s largest band project.

Michael was Music Director and played oboe, Moog Synthesiser and electric piano

Bowie was in NYC with Tony Defries when Michael’s first ballet - Rodin - premiered with the Harkness Ballet and he went back stage to meet Michael afterwards. He was so impressed and they got on so well, Bowie asked Michael to oversee his change in direction with the Diamond Dogs Album and US Tour. Michael introduced musicians and dancers to join the party.

“Michael was enormously helpful in making that work… It’s worth remembering… we gave MK a lot of responsibility and he managed it extremely well. MK was only in his 20’s.. but completely aware and in charge and confident in what he was doing and that was really essential because without that we could not have made the rest of it work.. Michael was the person that everyone turned to - even eventually Queen Elizabeth!” Tony Defries.
